In-Lab Sleep Study
An In-Lab Sleep Study (Polysomnography) is an overnight test that records your
breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm, brain waves, and movement while you sleep.
What is In-Lab Sleep Study?
An In-Lab Sleep Study (Polysomnography) is an overnight test that records your breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm, brain waves, and movement while you sleep. It’s the most complete way to understand what happens overnight — and more comfortable than most people expect, in a private suite that feels closer to a hotel room than a hospital.
Why is it done?
We recommend an in-lab study when the picture is complex — when a home test was inconclusive, when central sleep apnea or another sleep disorder is possible, or when we need to watch your sleep stages closely. It addresses conditions such as:
What it can find

Obstructive and central sleep apnea

Unusual movements or behaviors in sleep

Narcolepsy and excessive daytime sleepiness

Why an existing treatment is not working
Ready to Schedule, or Have Questions First?
Who is a candidate?

Loud snoring with witnessed pauses or gasping

Unrefreshing sleep and daytime sleepiness

An inconclusive home sleep test

Suspected central sleep apnea or narcolepsy
How to prepare

Keep your usual sleep schedule the day before

Avoid caffeine and naps after lunch

Wash and dry your hair; skip oils, gels, and heavy lotion

Bring comfortable sleepwear and your bedtime routine

Bring a list of your medications
What to expect
01
Arrive in the evening
A technologist welcomes you to a private room and answers your questions.
02
Sensor set-up
Soft sensors are placed on your scalp, face, chest, and a finger — painless and removable.
03
Sleep as usual
You sleep while the team monitors from a separate room; you can call for help anytime.
04
Morning wrap-up
Sensors come off and you head home — most people leave by 6–7 a.m.
Results & next steps
A board-certified sleep physician reviews your full night of data, and we discuss the findings with you — usually within one to two weeks — along with a clear plan and any treatment options.
Frequently asked questions
Will I be able to sleep with all the sensors?
Most people sleep enough for an accurate study, even if it isn’t your best night. The sensors are designed to be comfortable, and we only need a representative sample of your sleep.
Is the study covered by insurance?
Sleep studies are commonly covered when medically indicated. Our team verifies your benefits and explains any costs before you come in.
Can I bring my own pillow?
Absolutely. Bringing familiar items helps you settle in and sleep more naturally.
